Bone healing sesame and chia bliss balls

November 15, 2018 by Kate Leave a Comment

bone healing bliss balls calcium food as medicineSince I fractured my back, I’ve been careful to include essential bone building nutrients in my diet. While calcium is essential for bone health, it can’t get into our bones without a healthy dose of vitamin D from the sun, and a well-functioning gut.

So, here are my bone healing bliss balls – full of calcium-rich ingredients – to be eaten in the sunshine for morning or afternoon tea with your cuppa of choice. And for your digestion and gut health – take a break! Eat slowly and in a relaxed, present state, either on your own or with some loved one. The calmer we are when we eat, the more our digestion can do it’s job. (Stress is the enemy of good gut health!)

Chia and sesame seeds and almonds are all packed with calcium! Raw honey is a great antimicrobial sweetener that aids in good gut health.

And as always, my little helper and taste tester gave these her sweet tick of approval!

Bone healing bliss balls

gluten free, dairy free, low citric acid

Ingredients

1/2 cup chia seeds

1/2 cup almond meal

1 cup mixed nuts (I used Brazil – for selenium, and cashews – for sweetness)

1/2 cup tahini (sesame seed paste)

2 tbsp carob powder (or raw cacao)

2 tbsp raw honey (if it’s not raw, it’s been heated and has lost its antimicrobial properties)

Method

Blitz up the chia seeds, then add the nuts. Blitz again until the mixture resembles almond meal. Stir through all other ingredients.

Roll into balls around 20c piece diameter. Place on a plate in the fridge to cool and harden up. Store in a glass jar or container for up to a week.
