Coconut chai bliss balls – Love your liver!

February 25, 2018 by Kate Leave a Comment

chai spice and coconutty goodness

Everyone loves a good bliss ball, right? These delicious coconut chai bliss balls are as healthy as they are tasty (with no dates in sight). Slightly sweet and coconutty, with lovely chai spices throughout.

They are super easy to make, and you can choose whether to use almond meal (no blending!) or cashews, which are lower in natural food chemicals, amines, if you’re sensitive.

The spices help your liver to detox more efficiently, so this delicious bite can even be your ‘food as medicine’. You can even add maca powder, to help your body adjust it’s stress response and keep you calmer! …

Top 7 gut healing tips for food intolerance

September 25, 2017 by Kate Leave a Comment

food intolerance gut health

looking after your gut health reduces food intolerances

With all types of food intolerance, comes an underlying gut problem. Heal your gut and your body will react less. Your body is reacting to foods because there’s an imbalance of bacteria and ‘leaky gut’. If you have ongoing gut symptoms, emotional problems, skin issues or multiple sensitivities, then a good old gut healing protocol may be just what you need.

finding the diet that is RIGHT FOR YOU is the key to managing food intolerance

I’d be surprised if you said yes! There aren’t many people who do. Some say chemical sensitivity is the only type of food intolerance, others say it’s all about IgG. When in truth, both exist and are very real for the people suffering from them. The key to the riddle is knowing how to test for each type.

Beetroot pumpkin salad… and which olive oil is best for health and intolerance?

March 21, 2017 by Kate Leave a Comment

Salads don’t have to be boring. It feels good to be healthy – both inside and out. And if you’re a foodie, you have to do it with taste!

Beetroot and pumpkin are delicious roasted – especially if you can get a little caramelisation on the pumpkin. Tossed through with a sweet balsamic and olive oil dressing, some fresh greens and salty goat’s cheese, it’s a delicious, warming autumn salad.

Olive oil (in moderation if high salicylates and amines affect you, full of antioxidants and vitamin E)But which olive oil is best for you?

For anyone with an intolerance to salicylates or amines, extra virgin olive oil isn’t a great option….

Allergy might kill you, but intolerance kills you slowly…

March 10, 2016 by Kate Leave a Comment

allergy, intolerance, young kid, heal your gut

Itchy skin can be a sign of allergy or intolerance

How are allergy and intolerance different?

Allergy and intolerance are different, but they’re also very similar. Both are caused by an immune reaction, but the difference is in the timing. Allergy is immediate and intolerance is delayed, making it harder to pinpoint the offending food. Allergic reactions release histamine, which is why they show up on skin-prick tests, while intolerances don’t necessarily. But the cause is similar – a food protein (allergy) or a food chemical (intolerance) and so are the symptoms – a rash, stomach complaints, breathing difficulties etc. However, allergy can be life-threatening, so I’m sure we all agree it cannot be ignored. Intolerance, on the other hand, may lead to life-long illness, so maybe it’s about time we paid it some more attention!
